Had the opportunity to address esteemed guests and speak on innovative use of technology for women safety at the Security Watch India Summit.
There are 100 million + women in the state of Uttar Pradesh and every 36th woman of the world lives in U.P. in largely rural areas. We’ve launched Vikalp in Uttar Pradesh, a digital portal exclusively dedicated to reporting crimes against women. Vikalp helps close the gender digital divide as over 80% of users of Vikalp are women. The app has helped break the culture of silence, victim blaming and violence against women.
Uttar Pradesh Police needs to move towards a model of community policing, which is why we have also started RU-BA-RU, a program where police personnel interact with over 30,000 school and college children to help them understand cybersecurity laws and keep themselves safe.
We have signed a special MoU with UNICEF to help build these programs further, and create a more responsive and effective police in order to empower women across Uttar Pradesh.
